Spinning Reels

Shop spinning reels online at Smart Marine, from Shimano, Daiwa, Penn and Okuma, plus Jarvis Walker, Kilwell, Tica and Jigging Master. Easy to use and easy to cast, spinning reels suit everything from wharf fishing and softbaiting to chasing kingfish and tuna offshore.

Choosing a size. Small reels in the 1000 to 3000 size range are light and well suited to softbaiting, harbour fishing and kids. Mid-size 4000 to 5000 reels are the all-rounders for snapper fishing from the boat. 6000 to 8000 sizes handle heavier bait fishing, livebaiting and bigger fish, while heavy-duty 10000-plus reels are built for kingfish, tuna, topwater and jigging.

Features to look for. Baitrunner and Live Liner reels have a free-spool system that lets a fish run with your bait without feeling resistance, ideal for snapper and livebaiting. Reels with a higher gear ratio retrieve line faster, which suits lure fishing. Heavy-duty saltwater models are sealed against water and salt for long life offshore, and some reels come spooled with line, ready to fish.
