Kids Sets

Shop kids fishing rods and rod and reel sets online at Smart Marine, from Shimano, Kilwell, Jarvis Walker, Okuma and Shakespeare. Our kids’ sets come matched and ready to go, and most are spooled with line, so young anglers can get straight into fishing off the wharf, beach or boat.

Choosing the right size. Short rods of around 3 to 4 feet are easiest for younger children to hold and control, and are ideal for catching small fish off the wharf. Older kids can step up to a 5 to 6 foot rod, which casts further and handles snapper, kahawai and other inshore fish. Telescopic sets pack down small for the car, bach or holiday, and LED light-up rods, like Kilwell’s NZ-made Disco Stix, add extra fun.

Complete their kit. Add hooks, sinkers and floats and bait, or make it easy with a ready-made tackle pack and a tackle box to keep it all together. Fishing from the boat? Make sure they’re wearing a properly fitted lifejacket.
