Lifejackets- Inflatable

Shop inflatable lifejackets online at Smart Marine, from Hutchwilco, Maxxon, Crewsaver, Watersnake, BLA, Burke and Response. Lightweight and comfortable enough to wear all day, inflatable lifejackets have become the most popular choice for boating, fishing and sailing in New Zealand, and the best lifejacket is the one you’re wearing.

Manual or automatic? Manual inflatables inflate when you pull the cord, so they won’t go off from spray or rain, and suit fishing and trailer boating. Automatic inflatables inflate on their own when you enter the water, giving extra protection if you’re knocked overboard or unable to pull the cord. Most can also be topped up by mouth with the oral tube.

Choosing your buoyancy. Buoyancy is measured in newtons (N). Our range runs from 150N, ideal for inshore and coastal boating, up to 170N and 180N models for extra flotation and offshore use. Harness models have built-in rings for clipping on a safety line when sailing or fishing offshore. We also stock inflatable waist belts, child inflatable lifejackets, and a wave hood to protect your airway in rough water.

Look after your lifejacket. Check your inflatable before each season. Make sure the gas cylinder is screwed in firmly and hasn’t been used or corroded, and that the indicators show it’s armed. Wear it over your clothing so the pull cord is easy to reach, and keep a spare recharge kit on board.

Many regional council bylaws require lifejackets to be worn in boats 6 metres and under, so check the rules for your area.
