A vertical windlass mounts its motor below deck, leaving a compact, low-profile unit on deck, and the rope and chain wrap further around the gypsy for a secure grip.

Choosing a windlass. Our Maxwell RC range covers boats of different sizes, from the compact RC6 to the RC8, RC10 and heavy-duty RC12. Choose a low-profile model for a sleek deck line, or a capstan model ("C") with a warping drum for handling mooring lines. Match the gypsy to your chain size, and check you have enough space below deck for the motor and enough depth in the anchor locker for the rode to self-stow. Maxwell packages come with switchgear included, and we also stock the Lewmar V700G. For smaller boats using rope, the Maxwell AnchorMax and Quick Tumbler anchor capstans are a simple, affordable option.
