Black Magic 13x Hyperglide Braid Now in Rainbow and Tekapo Blue
Black Magic's premium 13x Hyperglide braid is built for anglers who need to put a lure or bait exactly where the fish are. It's now available at Smart Marine in two versions: the new multicolour Rainbow, with colour-coded depth markings, and the classic Tekapo Blue for light-tackle work.
What Makes 13x Hyperglide Different?
Most braids are 4 or 8 carrier. Hyperglide is a 13 carrier braid, with 12 Japanese PE fibres woven around a strong central core. The result is a smooth, round line that glides through your rod guides with less friction, so you get longer, more accurate casts. It also has a fine diameter for less drag in the water, and minimal stretch for excellent bite detection.
Hyperglide Rainbow: Know Exactly Where You're Fishing
The Rainbow version changes colour every 10 metres, cycling through five vibrant colours, with 1-metre strike indicators in between. You always know how much line is out, so once you get a bite you can drop straight back to that depth and stay in the strike zone. It's a real advantage when jigging, soft baiting in deeper water, or working fish you've marked on the sounder.
- 16lb / 20lb / 30lb – 300m: ideal for soft baiting, jigging and bait fishing for snapper and kingfish.
- 50lb / 80lb – 500m: built for topwater casting and heavy lure work on kingfish, tuna and other powerful saltwater species.
Hyperglide Tekapo Blue: Light-Tackle Finesse
The Tekapo Blue colour helps keep line visibility down in the water, and its ultra-fine diameters make it perfect for light casting where distance and a natural presentation matter.

Tips for Getting the Most From Your Braid
- Add a fluorocarbon leader. Braid is visible and has little abrasion resistance against rocks and teeth. A Black Magic Tough Fluorocarbon Leader gives you stealth and toughness.
- Use a braid-friendly knot. An FG knot is slim and strong and passes easily through your guides.
- Don't overfill your spool. Filling to around 1–2mm below the lip helps prevent wind knots.
- Rinse after saltwater use. A quick freshwater rinse helps extend the life of your line and reel.
