DaHo Hollow Spectra/Dacron Threading Needle.

  • Each of DaHo's needles is made using a combination of machine and hand steps. The points are machine made and hand finished. They are designed to thread through the hollow spectra line with ease, yet they have a rounded tip that is not sharp. DaHo's rounded tip will not catch on the minute braided spectra threads while being threaded in your hollow spectra lines.
  • Comes in a Protective storage container and with detailed instructions. One needle supplied.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: N30067

Description: 200-300# Threading Needle

Tube Length: 6.24"

ID Size*: .0.67" (1.70mm) ID

Spectra Sizes: 200-300#

PLEASE NOTE* The ID sizes of DaHo's threading needles can vary up to .002" due to the tube manufacturing process. As we receive new shipments of needles, the IDs will slightly change. It is recommended that you select a needle that is at least .002" larger than your line for ease of use. It can be difficult to fit an exact size of line into a needle. If you have a problem with your line not fitting into one of our needles please send us an email and we will analise and resolve the problem.

As you can see, they have been sized by their length so if a customer has more than one of them, they can stand them on their open end and find the one they want by its length, compared to all the other threating needles. Our smallest threading needle, the 50# size, has a length of 5.6". Each larger threading needle is .1" longer than the last, with our largest 500# size being 6.5" in length. During DaHo's year of gathering requested features for their new needles, having some way to identify the threading needles was one that was requested many times. Due to their size and materials, the length was the only way to address this request.

The DaHo Hollow Spectra Threading Needles are hollow inside, except for the point, so monofilament or fluorocarbon line can be inserted into the needle. Then, the needle with the internal mono/fluoro line, is inserted, or threaded, into the hollow center section of the spectra braid. The needle, and attached mono/fluoro line, is typically inserted inside of the spectra from 3 to 5 feet to provide the best strength of the join. Because of the slick surface of the mono/fluoro line, the end point of the spectra must be finished to secure it to the mono/fluoro line. This finishing is usually done by gluing, serving, crimping, or some combination of these attachments, to the spectra line end. This ensures the join will not slip before the compression pressure occurs to in the braid of the hollow spectra line to hold the joined lines together.

The primary size of the threading needle is the ID, or Internal Diameter, indicating the approximate size of mono/fluoro line that it will hold inside. The needle size you need is determined by the size of the mono/fluoro line you are using. Typically, these sizes can be found on the spool the line was purchased with, or by visiting the line manufacturer's website. You will usually want to get a needle that will fit the line you are using, and provide and additional .002" of 'free' space to ease the insertion of your line. If the mono/fluoro line is too large for the needle, you will have to cut it down, which is not much fun to do... The needles will hold smaller sizes of mono/fluoro line, to a point, without issue. We offer most typically used sizes in our standard product offerings. We also offer 'special' sizes of needles for use with very large mono/fluoro lines, that are not commonly used. All are named for the typical size of mono/fluoro that they will hold, but you really need to select your needles by the actual size of your mono/fluoro line.

Here is the link to download DaHo's Excel spreadsheet that has pages for both mono and fluoro lines. The correct size of threading needle for each size and type of line we could find size data for on the web is listed. Please click here to view or download the spreadsheet.

In Threading needles, DaHo typically use thinner walled tubing to manufacture the needle. This is so the overall size of the needle will remain as small as possible, while offering the largest interior size to hold the monofilament line. Thinner is definitely better in this case, and DoHo's needles are the thinnest available...

Below is a close-up of DaHo's 7 standard threading needle points, showing how they will look when their open ends are placed on a flat surface.

DaHo Hollow Spectra Needles- Quality Manufacturing Difference:

All of the tasks you can do with hollow spectra line involve inserting other line materials inside of the hollow spectra line. Since the lines vary greatly in size, different sizes of needles are required to fit into the line that you are using. As the tolerances are very small, the size and shape of the needles are very important. Most of the previous commercially available needles use a thicker walled tubing material, and machine produced blunt "point" ends in their manufacture, which makes them larger in size and more difficult to use.

In the picture below you can see the needle point of the 60# threading needle on the bottom, and the competition's 60# threading needle's round ball like point on the top.

The inside chamber of the hollow spectra braid is tight. You can probably imagine the difference in effort the spectra fibers must go through to accept the two different point types. Which do you think works best for stretching and entering tight spectra braid?

You also should note the size difference having thinner walled tubing offers and the 100% polished smoothness of DaHo's needle products. Both of the above needles are for 60# mono line and both have the same interior size, or ID of .042". All of these features allow Daho needle products to glide into your hollow Spectra line much easier than any other needle tools available.

DaHo products have researched all the appropriate tubing products available and are offering our DaHo Hollow Spectra Needles, made from Medical Grade 304 Stainless Steel tubing. There are four different standard wall thicknesses of the 304 Stainless Steel tubing available. Daho have selected the materials for each of their various needle products to provide the best combination of small size, to make the job much easier to do, and strength to stand up to the task at hand.

Each of DaHo's needles is made using a combination of machine and hand steps. The points are machine made and hand finished. They are designed to thread through the hollow spectra line with ease, yet they have a rounded tip that is not sharp. Our rounded tip will not catch on the minute braided spectra threads while being threaded in your hollow spectra lines.

After each of our needles are made, they are fully polished. This is for two reasons. First, to ensure they will not snag on the fine internal threads of the spectra fibers. And, secondly, so our needles will glide through your hollow spectra line much easier than our competition's unpolished needles. Beside the shape of the point, we have found that polishing our needles reduces the time to complete a task, such as a loop or splice. It also makes it a much more enjoyable task to do as there is much less grip on the polished needles than with non-polished ones. Our full needle polishing even allows the use of some larger needles to be usable in your line compared to any non-polished needle.

PACKAGING: After all DaHo's needle products are tested, they are packaged into a small 3/8" heavy walled waterproof plastic tube for their protection, and are secured with a plastic hanger plug cap. These hanger plug caps are easy to use and easier to find than most tube caps. Then, the needle tube is placed into a new 1" heavy walled waterproof outer plastic tube along with the new 8 page, 7"X7" instruction and information booklet that is rolled up in the outer tube. The outer tube also has a plastic hanger plug cap for ease of use. Both of the product labels are also waterproof for endurance.
